Practical applications of developments of Subbotin Institute of Geophysics of NAS of Ukraine

A hazard due to the local and strong subcrustal earthquakes from Vrancea zone (Romania) exists permanently on the territory of Ukraine. IGPh of NAS of Ukraine has some significant fundamental and applied results in the seismological studies of the structure and dynamics of the Earth’s interior, of development of techniques for determining the quantitative characteristics of the real seismic hazard that are necessary to protect the population and economy of the country from earthquakes. The results of research works are implemented in formation of the state regulations in the field of seismology and earthquake engineering, in determination of seismic stability of housing, nuclear power plants, hydroelectric power stations and other important objects.
Keywords: earthquake, seismic hazard, general and detailed seismic zoning, seismic microzoning, design accelerograms, seismic resistance.
