SOME HISTORY AND PRESENT OF THE M.S. POLYAKOV INSTITUTE OF GEOTECHNICAL MECHANICS OF NAS OF UKRAINE
To the 50th anniversary of the Institute
In July of 1967, by the decision of the UkrSSR Council of Ministers and the Presidium of the UkrSSR Academy of Sciences the Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics was founded, which today is a major academic institution specializing in mining that explores fundamental and practical problems of geomechanics and geotechnics concerning development and conservation of mineral resources of Ukraine. The article highlights the history of the institution, the main directions of its research activities, the most significant and outstanding scientific achievements and practical results obtained in the 50 years of the Institute’s work.
