MONOPOLIZATION OF SECTION OF CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES OF THE NAS OF UKRAINE PERIODICALS

This article is a continuation of the article “How to assess how wide is an audience of a periodical” published in No. 9, 2018 of Visnyk of the NAS of Ukraine. The author audience and the monopolization level of the journal were analyzed through the Herfindahl–Hirschman index calculation using the same methods as in previous paper. Thus quantitative weighted distribution of each author is defined by their affiliation. The previous paper characterized journals of Section of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NAS of Ukraine showing almost complete monopolization of journals by their founding institutions. This article describes the same parameters for the journals of the Section of Chemical and Biological Sciences (chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and molecular biology and general biology departments) during 2015–2017. Journals of chemical and biological profile contain mostly papers made by broad author collectives, although reveal the results of researches provided by lesser quantity of institutions. Half of them are described as having low or average level of monopolization.
Keywords: scientific journal, Herfindahl–Hirschman Index, monopolization of scientific journal, affiliation, wideness of author audience.
