GEOLOGICAL AND GEOPHYSICAL PROBLEMS OF DEEP ISOLATION OF RADIOACTIVE WASTE
According to the scientific report at the meeting of the Presidium of NAS of Ukraine, April 19, 2017

A review of the current state and problems of geological and geophysical investigation for radioactive waste geological repository development in Ukraine is given. It covers the international and national background, progress in promising areas and site selection for radioactive waste geological disposal within crystalline rocks of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and in adjacent territories, development of the concept for geological disposal basing on a new classification of radioactive waste. Problem of toxic waste isolation in geological medium is discussed as well. To mitigate lagging in geological and geophysical work on site selection for deep geological facility in Ukraine the foundation of Scientific and Methodological Council on Geological Problems of Deep Geological Isolation of Radioactive and Other Hazardous Wastes in Ukraine is substantiated.
Keywords: radioactive waste, toxic waste, deep geological repository, waste disposal.

Language of article: ukrainian
