The report deals with actual material science problems of Ukraine's nuclear power engineering, related to improving the safety of NPP units, prolonging the resource of reactor vessel and main equipment of nuclear power plants, increasing the lifetime of core materials, creating nuclear fuel resistant to emergency conditions. It is noted that the material scientists of the NAS of Ukraine are successfully working to solve these problems, but the lack of a clear state strategy for the development of the nuclear energy complex significantly hinders the development of this field important for the energy security of Ukraine.
