MATHEMATICAL MODELING: FROM MESM TO EXAFLOPS

The article traces the evolution of mathematical and technical means of computer simulation from the very first computers to modern supercomputers and from highly specialized computational tasks to interdisciplinary models that meet the needs of a wide range of industries in the domestic economy. The mathematical directions in which the Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of NAS of Ukraine has made unique world level achievements are briefly described. Combining them with supercomputer technology and advanced areas of intelligent modeling can result in a breakthrough effect that will provide new knowledge in the field of digital technology that is rapidly evolving around the world today.
